Orkney – Standing Stones

In the second of my posts about Orkney I am looking at just some of the amazing standing stones to be seen there.  There are many of these on the islands and I only saw a few of them in the time I had.  All the images below come from The Ring of Brodgar and The Stones of Stenness – both close to each other on the Orkney mainland.

I love standing stones and always seek them out whenever I can.  These though were some of the best I have ever seen: and still freely accessible.  No matter what they were for or how they were constructed I just marvel at their standing for 5000 years and imagine all of those who have seen and touched them before me.
